They Re-invented the Remix

keysnkrates

JR Flo, Matisse Francois, & Adam Tune are Keys N Krates.

The trio has been gaining ground for their bugged out live remixing.  A mélange of turntablist djing, keys, and percussion that produces an infectious sound that gets the commodifid keffiyeh wearer bobbin’ his/her head and the backpackin’ wallflower to the dance floor.  And for everyday music fans, they just acknowledge the quality of this music.

New York transplants, by way of the T.Dot, it’s as if these three have taken the spirit of Caribana to synthesize a Hip-Hop performance that emits the energy of an army Soca warriors.

As a skeptic of the gimmick that has resulted from “Hip-Hop band” formula, I was pleasantly surprised to see what these cats are capable of producing.  It’s no surprise that the music “tastemakers” have been highlighting KNK as a group to watch and gaining a spot on Urb’s 2009 Next 100.

To the uninitiated:

And my personal favorite, their ATCQ set.

Watch their Live Remixing 101 Documentary trailer after the jump.

Big thanks to the homie, Predakon, for putting me on.
