Concerning the Fires in San Diego

We’ve found the TV news media in San Diego to be extremely inefficient at providing informative updates surrounding the severity of the fires and evacuation zones. For instance, local news personalities had the audacity to compare the evacuations of this disaster to New Orleans’ Hurricane Katrina as a display of San Diego’s superior composure. …Despicable.

I’ve always found it hard to watch the news down here in the lower-left. There seems to be a more transparent sensationalism on top of the presumptuous undertones of the reporting–a burning kitchen appliance need not to be described as a “carcass,” and we’ve seen enough shots of residents crying while a fire behind them stays unattended.

Moreover, looting hasn’t been a real concern lately. Nor is looting a major concern when evacuation centers are turning people away and fires are moving every which way in 30 mph winds. Besides, a person in an evacuation zone with a pickup truck might just be picking up their own stuff–not looting. In short, quit that shit, SD news peoples. We need no beef.

I’ve found the internet a bit more manageable in filtering the useful information. A pdf map of the burn and evacuation areas can be found here (from www.sdcountyemergeny.com–www.211sandiego.org appears to be down).

Stay safe, So-Cal.

Update: This Google-Map happens to be more up-to-date (big-up Daeta).

I know what you mean. Looking at CBS’s sensationalist “news” is hard to bear, but I do it cuz that’s the only coverage that’s available where I’m at. I know it ain’t much, but I compiled a list of good links for the SD fires at my website: http://hagure-metaru.net

hope you and yours are safe and sound.
