Return of the Jim Crow

Free Jena 6

If you thought we was out of the dark ages in our own country you was wrong! If you thought “Free (insert name)” shirts were a passing fad, strike two. And if it’s hard for you to read between the lines when looking at the crackdown on sagging pants and the “Jena 6″ then you must be from La Jolla.

Basically 6 young black males are getting the shaft from an all white jury in the south for jumping a white dude after a long history of racial tensions at a Louisiana high school. Some incidents include: nooses being hung from a “white tree”, a couple of fights (one involving a shotty) and a lot of negligence from cops. The result is a mixture of trials in which one might catch a case in adult court with a sentence of 22 years in jail. Makes me think about Dave Chapelle’s joke, “How old is 15 really?”

More details…

*Important* Here’s a website where you can actually do some social good and sign a petition that might save a young man from an absurd and unfair trial. Just go to the site and click on “Take Action” and take the 28 seconds to help save a young man’s life.

P.S. After having learned about all this shit going down in the south I couldn’t help but think about this song.

Dead Prez - They Schools

And one slapper just because. Props to Traxamillion for name dropping Mr. Dobalina and making something that goes hard in my scraper. It’s good to know that slap artists are hip to the backpacker shit.

And if ya have time to show support for the Jena 6, make sure to hit up the national day of action tomorrow. If you can’t make it to Louisiana, you can find a local rally or vigil near you:

I’ll be out there on Powell and Market.

To the folks at FOBBDeep (Ninoy Brown, Mad Himself), thanks for the link. As indicated elsewhere, I’m a fan and supporter of Fear of a Brown Blogger and I read regularly. Respect.
