The picture above is of one of one of my token right-wing homies.  We call him The Nicaraguan Republican.

Please feel free to relay any messages you would like me to deliver to him.

*Face removed for his physical protection, but he’s on his own when he wears it in public.

wherehouse

There was Wherehouse and their return policy.

Last week, a study from the BI Norwegian School of Management found that those who download free music are ten times more likely to purchase online music.  I really don’t know the validity strength of the study, but I do know that it makes me feel better about myself.  The study reinforces my own personal beliefs.

Music nerds spend more time researching and utilizing the Google free music algorithm.  The belief that I tried telling myself is true: Because they wasting copious amounts of time downloading tracks and becasue of their passion for the music, they will purchase what they like.  There are flaws to this logic.  And one flaw that come to mind is what I’ll call the “Wherehouse Hypothesis”.

US Marine Rape Conviction in Subic Bay Overturned

Philippines US Marine

This is disheartening.

MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE 3) The Court of Appeals has acquitted an American marine of raping a Filipina, saying the soldier and his accuser shared a “spontaneous, unplanned romantic episode.”

In a 71-page decision, the appellate court said Lance Corporal Daniel Smith and the victim, identified in court only as Nicole, were both intoxicated after a night out and were “carried away by their passions.”

Read on…

After recanting the testimony due to pressure and for a US Visa, the case turns to this.  Suzette (aka Nicole) was basically pawned off by the US government and the Philippine puppet regime to continue the colonial history and the Visiting Forcers Agreement.  Another victim is blamed for gender violence.

Is this the “change we believe in”?

Mistah F.A.B. - Hit Me On Twitter

@MistahFAB dropped a gem earlier with his homage to the micro-blogging beast, Twitter.

There’s a lot of hate against this online community, and I won’t argue.  It’s another way for some folks to continue with their Xanga-like egocentric online ways.  But, it’s also an interesting social experiment that allows one to build upon their online network.  Businesses have come up on it, and it also demystifies the notion of celebrity.  Reading conversations between Jay Electronica and Diddy leaves one to realize connections that exist among artists, and it also leaves one wondering about the potentials of collaborations… Day 26 feat. Wale, Jay Electronica, & Janelle Monae?

Anyways, props to Fabby Davis on getting #3 most RTs (sorry for those who aren’t in the know).  Now follow me.

Frequencies of the Masses

fmtm

From Monument to Masses.  A post/progressive-rock instrumental group who seeks to break down the idea of the iconographic leader of social movements and instead focus on all the people who make the movement possible.  They are a solidarity of three individuals who make great music: Francis Choung, Sergio Robledo-Maderazo, and Matthew Solberg.

On Little Known Frequencies is the most recent work to be released by the trio and your boy just got a chance to listen to the album.  Simply put, it knocks.  Not in the trunk rattling, want-to-blast-it-from-the-speakers-you’ve-recently-installed-into-the grill-of-your-scraper-type-of-way, but in its sonic ability to capture a soundtrack for a people’s political movement with everyone’s heads nodding to the rhythm.

The album can be purchased digitally.  Or better yet, pick one up when you see them on tour (there’s a month left of shows!)

Support quality music.  Peep their MySpace page.  And download some tracks. (”Beyond God & Elvis” is my joint).

Noriko Calderon: Forced to Choose Country or Parents

calderonfam

Japan is known for its nationalistic pride, a pride which often manifests itself in xenophobia.

In this case, the Calderon family is being split, separating Arlan and Sarah from their 13 year old daughter Noriko.  After leaving the Philippines to settle in Japan, Arlan and Sarah gave birth to Noriko, who only knows about her country of birth, Japan.  The family settled, adjusted, and made the country their new home.  Due to strict immigration restrictions, the family only has a couple of days together.

nobama

This was just one of my most recent post-racial moments.

Just two days after Obama spoke in Turkey to do some damage control with the Muslim world, I was driving around a parking lot in Daly City and saw a car parked with the bumper sticker above.

The nObama sticker is understandable, but so much for understanding the message that America is not at war with Islam.  Especially since we know that the war is about global military hegemony and scarce resources.

Silly fear mongering Saturn driver.

The Graff Toy: Wii Spray

Wii Spray:

Basically it is not about replacing real graffiti as a form of art. WiiSpray is rather to be seen as an interface to give graffiti a new virtual level outside of the real existing world.

Upon first finding out about a video game that utilizes the interactivity of the Wii video game platform, I acquire another reason why I need to invest in the Wii.  Then I realize that it is still a college project in Germany by Martin Lihs and Frank Matuse.  But with the potential that this holds, it is inevitable for it to be seen at the nearby Game Stop.

Of course the game presents taggin’ in a sterilized form that die hard heads might apply the “toy” label to any kid who would cop it, but seeing the controller should make some graff purists embrace this technology the way many djs have embraced Serato:
