Justice for Fil-Am Veteranos?

veteranos

Left as a sidenote in the last post, this story deserves more attention.

With it being over sixty years of injustice on the hands of America not wanting to recognize the sacrifice and lives that Filipino veterans had given during World War II, it is with celebration that legislation is finally being signed today acknowledging this.  Yet, during the debates, some argued against including this piece of legislation because of the tight budget, which did not make sense to me considering that most veteranos have alread passed away and wouldn’t receive the compensation that they should have already received.

With this passage, it comes with a sense of a bittersweet victory, because veteranos were unable to live to see today and also because this may not be the full equity that many had been fighting.

West vs. Willis

yemullet

Last week the homie, Jon, asked me for a question to ask Kanye West.  Apparently, they VH1 was taking submissions, and questions that were selected would qualify the person to be in the audience for Ye’s episode of Storytellers.  With the recent inauguration and Ye Tudda’s emotional response to Obama’s Presidency, I came up with this cheesy question: Change has been a mantra during the course of Obama’s campaign, but repeatedly, he has reminded the people that change is up to us.  Kanye, what if anything do plan to do to be that change?

VH1 apparently liked it (originally), selected the question, and asked Jon to come to the taping of Storytellers.  I guess during the taping, the question steered too far away from all the other ego-stroking sh*t that was asked, and my question was canned.

Looking back I knew I could have come up with a better question.  So I thought about Chicago.  Kanye has the hometown connection to the current President, who just so happened to sneak a nice overdue chunk of money for WWII Fil-Am Vets [1] into his giant stimulus package (pause), but what about another Chi-City legend: Wesley Willis?

weswillis

Don’t know the man born Wesley Shabaz Willis?  Sorry to hear that you’ve been without the privilege of ever hearing artistry at its finest.  Willis, who was a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, made over 1,000 songs before his passing in 2003.  Eccentricity was what created his huge cult following.  I was introduced to him with the track “Rock n Roll McDonalds”.  A documentary was released in 2003 right before he died called The Daddy of Rock n Roll.

The question I would have rather posed: As a native son of Chicago, another native, Wesley Willis, speaks from beyond the grave asks you one simple request: cut that mullet.  What is your response to him?

jabaconageburger

I started a pledge for myself that 40 days before each major run in which I participate, I will be on a strict diet.  No red meat or swine.  Nor will alcohol be consumed.

The fortieth day before my next half marathon starts next Monday.  So, for the next five days, I plan to eat as many items found on This is Why You’re Fat as I can.

I plan to start with Jabaconageburger, using beef patties from Patty King shipped to me by my aunt in the T.O.  This will be followed by a turbaconucken.

Checking In

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Updating blogs once a month is not wassup nor would it be considered being da bidness, but neither are technical problems with spam clogging up server space which prevents us from posting.

Apologies for the delayed posts, aside from trying to solve this spam crisis we’ve also been busy, and just to let those of you worried know, we’re still alive and kicking… actually I can only speak for 2/3’s of the FOBBDeepers, I don’t know what journey Mad Merc has gotten himself into.  He’s probably out somewhere exploring the depths of the spirit molecule.

With that, feel free to enjoy this PSA on the dangers Jenkem*:
