7thseal

Proceeding my first viewing of Seventh Seal aka Det Sjunde Inseglet, came some tripped out existential dreams about death and life. Imagine a fat lady (the type one would picture wearing viking horns and ending an opera) posing as death, wielding a hand-held scythe chasing me to meet my maker.

But yeah, Seventh Seal isn’t just a dope track by Freestyle Fellowship, nor was it the only masterpiece made by Ingmar Bergman. Dude made gems that keep your mind thinking long after the final credits rolled.

grill

This is that type of shit I wish I could have made up.

7-Year-Old Swallows Dental Apparatus:

SANFORD, Fla. – The family of a 7-year-old boy in Sanford who was rushed to an emergency room after he accidentally swallowed his “grill” — or decorative metal mouth piece — is concerned because the apparatus remains in his stomach.

Bobby Tedesco placed the grill over the teeth after his mother purchased it for $10 at a flea market.

Bobby said the grill fell out off his teeth and he started choking on it. His mother, Dawn Tedesco, attempted to clear his throat, but he swallowed the grill. An X-ray taken three days after incident showed the grill in Bobby’s stomach.

Doctors said there is only one way for the grill to exit.

Freestylesession 10 Year Anniversary

Saturday, July 28th, 2007

Freestylesession Flyer

Not even trying to sound like a “fanboy”, but if there was ever a shred of hope in trying to get people to see the complete Hip-Hop community, this is the jam to make sure you’re at. Cros1 of San Diego, founder and owner of Armory Massive and the infamous Freestyle Session B-boy event is back with its 10 year anniversary installment and trust, you don’t want to miss this shit, fo’ real fo’ real! Amongst the names to be dropped are Slick Rick “The Ruler” and Diamond D & AG and this isn’t even scratching the surface. To peep the entire list of shit going down go HERE.

If you wanted to truly appreciate how big this whole B-boy thing really is, you’ll be able to peep the baddest and freshest crews straight out of Korea, Japan, The Philippines, and a host of European countries all going at it for the $20,000 in cash and prizes. And since there is a current B-boy craze going on in East Asia, reminiscent of the one we had here in the 80’s, the skill level and shit people are rockin’ now a days is fuckin’ bonkers. Treal talk, just peep the crew list and you’ll understand how monumental this event is going to be for the entire B-boy and Hip-Hop community. Be there or be from UCSD (sqaure…Ha had to do it).

P.S. Since it’s been hella hot and I’m always conflicted with the choice of being fresh or being comfortable, I was inspired to upload this song from Husalah’s “Hustlin’ Since Da 80’s” album. The beat is refreshing and Husalah has a hilarious monologue at the end about the clothes he wears, coming up with new comparisons such as his Lacoste polo the same color as the Fruit Loop orange.

Do the D.A.N.C.E.

If you’ve been sleeping under a rock this past week, or you follow the Church of Ted Kaczynski, you might have missed the hypnotizing video of inmates at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center tearing shit up with their interpretation of the choreographed dance sequence from MJ’s “Thriller”:

After laughing out loud watching the clip, I decided to unintentionally kill that state of mind by reading some of the racist YouTube comments. I won’t even bother posting any of it.

Then I ran into an article by way of Angry Asian Man about the positive effects that choreographed dancing has had on inmate rehabilitation. From the BBC:

The routine is the brainchild of Byron Garcia, a security consultant for the Cebu provincial government.

He said it had helped “drastically” improve inmate behaviour…

“Using music, you can involve the body and the mind. The inmates have to count, memorize steps and follow the music,” Mr Garcia told the BBC news website.

“Inmates say to me: ‘You have put my mind off revenge, foolishness, or thinking how to escape from jail, or joining a gang’,” he said.

Should it be a shock that Filipino’s are tearing it up with their dancing? Any person who’s ever been to a Pilipino Cultural Night should know how much attention is placed on the modern dance pieces. Of course the need for these dances in PCN’s is debatable.

Now we just need to see how much GMA will milk the attention to this particular prison so that she can receive more aid to constrict democracy.

America’s Near Fall to Fascism

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

republican fascist

It is said that sleep is the cousin of death. When folks fall asleep during a covert fascist takeover, liberty and human rights end up following the Angel of Death. Death’s single degree of separation to right-wing ideology rests in the how the ideology practices incest with fascism.

According to a BBC Radio investigative report, FDR’s progressive social programs was apparently such a huge threat to the capitalistic ideal of those in power that a Hitler/Mussolini-esque fascist plot to overthrow the President with the pimp limp. The American Liberty League was born out of the influence of a genocidal posse. It’s no surprise that the elite crew who who tried to ride on Hitler’s coattails consisted of the American industry elite, such as Maxwell House, Heinz, General Motors, and Dubya’s abuelo, Prescott Bush, among others.

Listen to the entire story.

Interestingly, Mike Thomson makes it a point to bring up the high likelihood that the country would be submissive to a dictatorship replacing FDR, as they might deem it necessary for the “preservation” certain liberties. This makes one wonder about the ability for our current society to fall into such a fate.

And if you ain’t already knowing, learn yourself about how different American corporations provided assistance to the rise of certain fascist European regimes.

It shouldn’t be a shock that our your current President has connections to a dark elite like this. (Key in to the dude left of the clock):

*And for those wondering, the picture at the beginning was taken a while ago from a counter protest to a group of College Republicans in NYU who thought it necessary to engage in a racist game of “Find the Illegal Immigrant”.

50 Ways to Use a Sample

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

psimon
Paul had “emo” on lock before girl-jeans on guys

This coming Next Tuesday marks the release of an artist who the Brown Bloggers are somewhat partial towards. The internet has been hot the past couple of days with the leak to Lonnie Lynn’s attempt to find forever. But as I listened to the leak and got to the last official track of the album, “Forever Begins”, I was automatically drawn to the drum line. And then I ran into a post from Hip-Hop is Read, and thought of all the numerous times which the instrumentation was flipped.

Paul Simon isn’t necessarily the most Hip-Hop of cats. But there is something infectious within the eerie melody and drummer boy snare line that grants it repeat sample status. Whereas Garfunkel’s former potnah, sang about ways he should have left his ex-wife, the sampling artists reflect the diversity of Hip-Hop as they range in topics from death, rap battles, a problematic idea on gender politics, escaping one’s own status, paying dues, etc. In addition, the artists are also just as different as their respective songs.

I hardly ever do these sample hounds posts, but if ever I get a chance to put 2Pac, Eligh, Andre Nickatina, Common, and Pigeon John in one post, of course I’m going to take it. Consider the Triple P track a bonus mp3, since it’s an actual cover and not just a sample. And it’s not exactly 50 examples either (let me know of others I may be missing):

Paul Simon - 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover

Com Sense - Forever Begins

2Pac - Wonder Why They Call You Bitch

Andre Nickatina - Last Breath of an MC

Eminem - Murder Murder

DJ Quik - 50 Ways

Eligh - Born to Pay for the Past

Pigeon John - Passion

Platinum Pied Pipers - 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover feat. Rogier

*Update:

Kool Moe Dee - 50 Ways (shout out to sd, I can’t believe I forgot about this one)

murs

M.U.R.S. - Dreadlocks

Nick Carter, not to be confused with Nick Carter, meets Rick Rock!

In an interview with XXL a couple weeks ago, Murs (aka Making Underground Raw Shit, aka Making the Universe Recognize and Submit, aka Mainifesting Unique Rhyme Styles, etc.) noted his plans to reach out to various artists who many of his elitist fans since the Log Cabin days would look down upon. Fuck those cats. Two of the names that stuck out were Earl Steven’s son and Bay Area pioneering producer, Rick Rock.

Needless to say, I doubt this track will win over his hardcore fan base that never acknowledged how Murs always gave props to Master P for doing more for the community with his money than a lot of broke-ass so called “conscious rappers” could ever wish. But like I said, fuck ‘em. Murs still holds it down and continues to evolve.

Bonus addition mp3, inspired by Mad’s last post:

We All Have Dreams

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

This music video by Bay Area Filipino artist, Nump, is a dedication to the late Mike ‘Dream‘ (R.I.P.) “graffiti” writer of the TDK crew straight out of the Bay. His impact on the Hip-Hop scene, not only in the Bay Area, but also world wide has left his legacy with prestige and respect. Some day yall should make your way out to one of his many memorial ‘piece’ sites and pay homage to one of the greats.

A little message from Dream to all you ‘Hip-Hop’ heads out there…Posers!

Dream TDK

And one more to stay on the political side…

P.S. The Pack ft. Bone Crusher & Keak - “I’m Outside” & Clyde Carson ft. Sean Kingston - “Doin’ Dat” (CDQ)

Some heaters for the summer and I can almost guarantee that the Clyde Carson joint is going to be heating up the clubs and parties soon so learn the words and be one of the cool kids that can rap along with it!

What percentage of campers this year were influenced in making their excursions due to the programming on Discovery Channel?

How many stranded and lost folks will we be hearing about this year ’cause they thought they could make it alone in the wilderness after taking a few notes from Bear Grylls and dude from Survivorman?

A Hell Of A Lot Of

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

hellatight

“Hella”. Growing up the word naturally rolled off my tongue like the word “like”. It wasn’t until I relocated to go to school at UC of the Socially Deprived did I get called out for using the word, like I was calling soda, “pop”. Fuckin’ Southerners (no La eMe). I was newly introduced to some fabricated Northern Cali vs. Southern Cali beef that I was unaware, outside of XIV and XIII. At least this hasn’t reached YouTube beef status, or has it?

Using the word “hella” was a marker for people to call you out for being alien to So. Cal. Like I give two shits that I’m not native to San Diego (no disrespect, overall, the city treated me well). But what irked me the most about this whole “hella” bullshit was that I argue is used by everyone else, but folks from San Diego, and maybe L.A. Thus, it isn’t that we, who use the word, are the anomaly, but that they, who don’t, are.

Proof: Check out Jay Smooth’s Ill Doctrine clip on “iPhone and Churches” and pay special close attention to Wise Intelligent’s (an East Coast cat) clip on Howard Stern where he breaks some slang ish down (2:16). Make sure to watch the whole clip and part two of the clip, though, as Jay continues to drop knowledge.

I guess in the internets, this is where folks would say, Nor Cal: 1, So Cal: 0.
